iGoogle dragon theme!

G_theme_thumb_sm Last week, I downloaded a trial version of Corel Painter 11. It's a little buggy, but I am still lusting after it. I was on holiday, so had a few days to mess around. I ended up designing a dragon theme for iGoogle. You can add it to your Google home page from here (and please do add your comments and ratings! I believe they might help improve the ranking of the theme, which in turn would get it in front of more people).

I'm still using the same old Wacom tablet I've had for years and it's doing fine. With Painter, I found that the pencil tools were convincing enough within the programme so I didn't need to do what I normally do (which is to draw with pencils first, scan the result and continue digitally).

There is no way I can afford (or even properly run) Painter just now, but I will budget for it once I upgrade my desktop PC. Maybe next year. My desktop PC is also getting on a bit and unlike the Wacom tablet, this is starting to be a problem.

My new comic strip at DrunkDuck

SbthumbRecently, I dug out my pencils and started a new comic strip, "Superbug". His head stared at me from my chemistry notebook (some 3D models of the water molecule don't half look like insect heads!).

It's a lot of fun to play around with any new medium - and comics in particular offer so much scope for experimentation, storytelling and humour that I'm just having a really good time with this strip! Hoping to update it once a week (but we'll see! I don't want it to be a chore. I started this as a kind of relaxation technique).

Check out the strip at DrunkDuck.com.

Oriental dragon sketch

I've just uploaded an online snapshot of a quick dragon sketch I created for a recent presentation. Take a look! For my photo montage, this is a good place to start and here's the rest of the illustration. Hope you enjoy! This portfolio blog represents only a small selection of my artwork, but should give you a general idea of style and subject matter. For any enquiries, please drop me a line.

News: This Life / Magic available to buy

The album cover and layout for This Life "Magic" (the second installment of musician Frank Farrow's solo project) is finished and the record is available to buy direct from Artistlaunch. I've included low res samples of the cover & inside booklet for your enjoyment. Frank very kindly took my title suggestion for the album (once again! I named his solo debut too) and sent me this lovely thank-you message.

I am currently working on a full colour A3 fantasy poster, featuring the dragon from this album cover project. The intention is to offer the poster as a signed print. Watch this space. You may also wish to pop over to my main blog for any news on what I'm up to.

Please scroll down, or use the navigation on the left to view my current online portfolio, which contains samples of my book covers, CD covers and unpublished personal work. I love feedback, so don't hesitate to email me.
