Very Long Bio:
The things I have written about, am writing about and will write about range from navel-gazing and over-analysing to Muppets and social commentary. I realise that not sticking to one topic is frowned upon according to The Golden Rules Of New Blogging.
Hopefully, some of the content here will entertain. Possibly even inform. I credit the audience that stays here long enough to read an entry or two with the ability to "get" things and to detect irony. I don't mind critique, or intelligent debate. I am always ready to question my beliefs and opinions. I do stand firm on some things. I'm just not going to list them all.
I'm a Finn and have lived in UK since 1992. I work day and night, thrive on variety and seem to be able to generate an endless stream of ideas. I've dabbled (and maybe sometimes even excelled) at dozens and dozens of things. I wish I could learn so much more than is physically possible. There just isn't enough time in the world. Author Barbara Sher describes people like me as 'scanners'.
I work full time at the head office of a well-known cosmetics brand. I am also writing a book about the industry and studying on the IFEAT Diploma in Aroma Trade Studies (perfumery) course and for an OU qualification in Contemporary Science. My previous qualifications include a HND in Theatre Studies (Specialist Make-up) from London College of Fashion.
I keep thinking... actually; I was going to go somewhere with that, but maybe it ought to stand as is: I keep thinking. Therefore I write? Who knows. I've had the compulsion from an early age and after filling up a few notebooks too many with stories, my mother got fed up with being my only reader and sent one of them off to a magazine when I was 9 years old and the story was published. I carried on pretty much in the same vein and had some further stories printed, wrote plays for our school, the last of which was a memorably geeky and over-the-heads-of-pretty-much-everyone-in-my-class satire about a group of aliens who come to earth during the Christmas shopping rush in search of sentient life and end up leaving, having declared their mission a total failure. Later I had some teenage fiction published in a cringeworthy romance mag; then much later- after I'd moved to London - an online SF/fantasy ezine took one of my first attempts at writing fiction in English (I won't name the zine or the story for the fear that they might still be knocking around somewhere). Since then most of my writing has been work-related (software training manuals, online content, product copy and so on).
I spend my life working, reading, writing, drawing, studying, traveling and playing computer games. I hope to get the opportunity to practice as much perfumery as possible. So far there have been three commercial products sold worldwide with my perfumery work in them. It would be wonderful if there were more to come.
I'll drop in here at Typepad from time to time and tell you what I've been up to or what's on my mind.
